Team Teach -Positive Handling and De-escalation

Delivered by: Behaviour Support Team

Training format
Basic six hour Foundation Course (Twelve hour course available if required)
Maximum of 24 trainees

Closed courses delivered at host school.

Open courses attended by multiple schools are scheduled for various dates throughout the year at
• Burnby Hall, Pocklington

Attendance Requirements
The course is only open to East Riding Local Authority employees who have an East Riding Payroll number
•A member of each attending school’s Senior Leadership Team, must attend the course, or must hold a current accredited Team Teach certificate. (Attendees will be required to provide the certificate number of the relevant Team Teach accredited senior leader if no member of the school’s senior leadership team are attending the course)
•A minimum of four employees from any one school must hold current, valid Team Teach certificates, or be trained at the same time.
•Upon course booking Health Awareness documentation will be provided to attending schools. All attendees must read the documentation at least two weeks prior to the course.
*Clothing and footwear, suitable for low level physical activity, must be worn


East Riding Local Authority Maintained Primary School employees - FREE

Other East Riding Local Authority employees - £105 per trainee

CPD course cancellation charge: the full fee will be charged if cancelled less than four weeks prior to the course start date. Cancellations must be notified in writing. Courses nominally free of charge as part of the case work service will incur a cancellation fee of £50 if cancelled less than two weeks prior to the start date.

Learning and Teaching Outcomes
•Increase staff confidence, and competence in responding to behaviours that challenge
•Promote consistent staff ethos and approach
•Promote an awareness of procedures for Recording, Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluating incidents of restraint
•Raise awareness of relevant legal standards and expectations related to use of force
•Raise awareness of Risk Assessments, strategies for risk reduction, positive handling plans
•Provide practical guidance on a continuum of gradual and graded techniques for Positive Physical Handling
•Provide understanding and strategies for De-escalating behaviour
•Promote understanding and skills in de-escalation

Learning and Teaching Outcomes

We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
