Curriculum Challenge for Governors (Holderness Cluster)

Target audience:

Governors of the Holderness Cluster

Outline of event:

The introduction of the reformed National Curriculum 2014 and assessment without levels have been major changes for schools and continue to be demanding. The content and challenges have increased demands for schools. The Government's intention that the National Curriculum be slimmed down so that it properly reflects the body of essential knowledge which all children should learn and does not absorb the overwhelming majority of teaching time in schools. In addition, under Leadership and Management, Ofsted judge the quality of curriculum and its impact on pupils. Progress across a wide range of subjects, not just English and Mathematics are judged as part of the inspection framework.

The training event helps prepare governors to understand the statutory content of the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2. In addition, governors will get the opportunity to gain skills in asking searching questions and using evidence to support and challenge leaders to ensure the curriculum is right for their school and pupils.

It would be useful if governors could bring along with them any curriculum documents

The event will take place at Thorngumbald Primary School, Plumtree Road, Thorngumbald, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU12 9QQ, 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

Learning and Teaching Outcomes:

Attendance at this event will support and enable participants to:

- understand the reasons for curriculum reforms
- understand the content and statutory requirements for the National Curriculum
- reflect on the vision and curriculum for your school
- support governors in fulfilling their role to support and challenge leaders

We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
