New Chairs and Vice Chairs: understanding the role

Target audience:

New or Aspiring Chairs and Vice Chairs of Governors

Outline of event:

The chair, with support from the vice chair, is responsible for ensuring the effective functioning of the board and has a vital role in setting the highest of expectations for professional standards of governance. It is the chair’s role to give the board clear leadership and direction, keeping it focused on its core functions.

Learning and Teaching Outcomes:

Attendance at this event will support and enable participants to:
- lead governance in schools
- lead and develop the team
- ensure the head teacher and senior leaders are held to account
- gain confidence in the chair’s role in leading the governing body to become more effective at strategic leadership
- know how the structure of the governing body and committees impacts on the effectiveness of the governing body

We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
