Educational Visits - Planning and Leadership - Training for NQTs and new staff
NQTs and other staff who are new to the East Riding
Outline of event:
FULL DAY - The LA requires all NQTs to undertake this training during their first year of teaching. It will be helpful also for any staff who are new to the East Riding. This practical course will help those new to the teaching profession or county to understand better the issues involved in the planning, organisation and leadership of visits and outdoor learning activities, together with the policies/procedures that exist within the East Riding. The course also aims to highlight the potential benefits of learning outside the classroom, and to inspire staff to explore wider opportunities for teaching outdoors.
For schools/academies which have bought in to the Educational Visits and Outdoor Learning SLA the charge will be £35pp (to cover cost of venue/refreshments/admin).
For schools/academies which have not bought in to the Educational Visits and Outdoor Learning SLA the charge will be £180pp.
If a school has a number of new staff and NQTs it might be possible to arrange a course inhouse instead. Please contact the LA Educational Visits Officer to discuss and arrange.

Learning and Teaching Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants should be aware of:
* the potential benefits and risks associated with educational visits and learning outside the classroom
* the roles and responsibilities of visit leaders and managers
* LA and school guidance/policy/procedures
* the legal framework and requirements
* recommended risk assessment procedures
* how to identify and manage risks reasonably and proportionately
* how to use ROVER online
* how to make the most of outdoor learning opportunities
* how to access further support and advice
Planned outcomes for the school include:
* increased competence and confidence amongst staff to lead visits safely and provide quality outdoor learning experiences
* an increase in the number of educational visits and outdoor learning opportunities
We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
Outdoor clothing and footwear will be required.
