Disadvantage Champion Network Meeting

Target audience:

Disadvantage Champions within all phases and those aspiring to the role; Teachers/Senior Leaders within all phases with responsibility for some aspect of raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils; Disadvantage Link Governors within all phases.

Outline of event:

Following the introduction of the 'ASPIRE Charter' during the academic year 2015-16, East Riding schools have committed to address the barriers to learning that financial disadvantage can bring and the effect that it can have on the attainment of each individual disadvantaged pupil. Within schools, Disadvantage Champions and Disadvantage Link Governors have been identified and are providing the leadership and work coordination needed to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils. The Disadvantage Champion Network Meetings are designed to provide support and challenge to this ongoing work.

As the Ofsted Framework (launched in September 2015) increases the inspection emphasis on tracking the progress of the disadvantaged, accounting for the effective use of the pupil premium and evaluating the role played by leaders in doing this, these meetings aim to ensure that those with responsibility for raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils are fully up to date with the latest pedagogical developments, with contemporary research and with the current local and national picture. Meetings will be interactive and offer practical ideas for use in the classroom and in wider aspects of the leadership role. They will also provide a forum for sharing good practice and networking. Each meeting has totally new content and delegates are recommended to attend all meetings for maximum benefit.

Learning and Teaching Outcomes:

*Raise the profile of disadvantaged pupils within their school to raise attainment.
*Be aware of the current local and national context, including research, guidance, strategies for improvement and support that is available.
*Analyse internal and external data to understand local and national standards, to determine areas for improvement and intervention.
*Be confident about asking challenging questions and raising aspirations regarding provision for disadvantaged pupils and the use of the Pupil Premium Grant.
*Self-evaluate the quality of the provision for disadvantaged pupils within the school context.
*Be confident in producing and evaluating action plans based on: data analysis, identified barriers and specific individual needs of children and their families.
*Share successful pedagogy and effective practice across the LA and within their school settings, selecting appropriate improvements to be implemented in the classroom and the wider school context.

We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
