2. Awareness of child abuse and neglect

Course Aim: To inform the learner of the various types of abuse and neglect inflicted on children and to explain what the professional must do if they suspect a child is being abused or neglected.

There are two modules choices dependent on the most appropriate course for their role:

• The Core Module is aimed at those who work directly with children and young people. They will have some organisational responsibility in relation to Safeguarding Children.

• The Foundation Module is more appropriate for those in a paid or voluntary capacity who may have contact with children and young people but do not work directly with them.

Both courses cover similar material but the Core Module deals with the subject in more in depth as appropriate for the increased level of contact with children and families. Core level training uses images of children with injuries to support learning which some learners may find disturbing.
