Mud Visions - Literacy Session

Target audience:

All teachers

Outline of event:

Mud is potent stuff, both ecologically and as a creative-writing subject. It has been closely associated with beginnings and endings, and that makes it a powerful source of inspiration.

Using mud, and the powerful textures, sounds and wider associations that mud evokes, Rowena Sommerville offers a range of activities and exercises for teachers interested in the opportunities that creative writing provides. Modelling clay will be the tool to encourage teachers to explore personal experiences of mud and also to explore the space that surrounds them. They will make stories and poems based on these discoveries and will be inspired by literary and mythological sources. Teachers will ultimately come away with a number of creative writing tasks and techniques and will co-design a creative writing workshop that will excite and inspire their pupils.

This session will run from 09:00 - 12:00
