Online Safety for School Governors: ensuring best practice in schools

Target audience:

Outline of event:

These sessions are intended to help Governors understand the importance and extensiveness of Online Safety issues for schools, their children and the community, and to suggest ways of challenging existing practice and fostering improvement. Topics covered will include:

- responsibilities for e-safety - in and out of school
- evaluating and improving policies
- current concerns for schools and children
- e-safety and the Prevent duty
- 10 hard questions to challenge your school
- evaluating practice and promoting improvement (including the "360 degree safe" system)

These sessions will be facilitated by Andy Nunn who was formerly Lead Officer for ICT for the School Improvement Service and is now an independent provider of e-Safety training and advice in the region. Andy is an e-Safety Mark Assessor, a CEOP Ambassador, is a former Chair of the ERSCB e-safety sub-group, and has wide experience of working in this field.

This course addresses the requirements as outlined in the Governor Competency Framework:
2A - Educational improvement - Someone on the board
* the duties and responsibilities in relation to health and safety in education
* the requirements relating to the safeguarding of children in education including the Prevent duty (e-safety)

Learning and Teaching Outcomes:

Participants will be empowered to help schools evaluate current practice and ensure schools keep up to date in this fast moving area of safeguarding

We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
