Curriculum Challenge for Governors

Target audience:

Primary School Governors

Outline of event:

The introduction of the reformed National Curriculum 2014 and assessment without levels have been major changes for schools and continue to be demanding. The content and challenges have increased demands for schools. The Government's intention that the National Curriculum be slimmed down so that it properly reflects the body of essential knowledge which all children should learn and does not absorb the overwhelming majority of teaching time in schools. In addition, under Leadership and Management, Ofsted judge the quality of curriculum and its impact on pupils. Progress across a wide range of subjects, not just English and Mathematics are judged as part of the inspection framework.

The training event helps prepare governors to understand the statutory content of the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2. In addition, governors will get the opportunity to gain skills in asking searching questions and using evidence to support and challenge leaders to ensure the curriculum is right for their school and pupils.

This course addresses the 'Knowledge' requirements as outlined in the Governor Competency Framework:
2A - Educational improvement - Everyone on the board
• the importance of a broad and balanced of the curriculum
• the rationale for the chosen curriculum and how this both promotes the ethos of the organisation and meets the needs of the pupils/students

This event will take place at County Hall, Beverley, 7.00pm to 9.00pm

Attendance at this event will support and enable participants to:
