Secondary Assessment and Accountability for Governors

Target audience:

Governors in secondary phase schools, particularly those with responsibility for teaching and learning and standards

Outline of event:

Assessment, in a range of forms, plays an essential part in school improvement by evaluating performance over time and providing a basis upon which to plan future development targets.

Governors must be aware of assessment systems across the secondary phase- KS3, KS4 and KS5- as well as how data available in documents such as Inspection Dashboard and Analysing School Performance (ASP) can be used alongside the school’s own data and national data systems such as NCER, FFT and ALPS to support and challenge the school’s leadership team effectively.

Learning and Teaching Outcomes:

After completing this session, participants will:

• Understand the requirements of assessment and examinations in secondary education and the role of governors in ensuring that guidance is followed

• Be aware of key accountability measures and how they can be used to support school improvement

• Be able to formulate questions to use when working with the headteacher and leadership team within school.

We expect that all CPD will involve integral evaluation processes
